Hey so, you know that feeling?
Itās the one when you finish the last episode of your favorite show and feel that weird emptiness?
Yeah, endings hurt,
but theyāre predictable, comforting even.
Beginnings though lol⦠those can scare you.
New job,
new city,
new love.
Endless unknowns, endless what-ifs.
But hereās something Iāve been sitting with:
Maybe itās not quite the fear of beginnings.
Maybe it's a hunger for certainty disguised as anxiety.
(Whoops)
š Article: "Why We Resist Change" ā Your brain and body are designed to resist change (even positive ones) because of behavioral inertia (ooooo).
So pair new habits with familiar cues (e.g 5 pushups after brushing your teeth).
š Article: āHow to overcome the fear of getting startedā ā Most people stay stuck not because they donāt have talent, BUT because their brain confuses judgement with danger.
Notice when your fear is tied to social harm vs. actual harm.
š Book notes on excerpt: "Transitions: Making Sense of Life's Changes" ā Change is not the same as transition. Transition is an intentional choice with depth, pause, curiosity. AKA allow yourself to feel the change fully & not ignore.
š„ Video: "Thinking about Thinking" ā A lot of people think that energy comes before action BUT the reality is small actions spark energy.
SO⦠next time you feel drained,
name how you feel in 2 words,
move your body,
and ask for grace >> being self-critical.
Itās WAY easier to replay familiar pain than risk fresh disappointment.
(shocker)
But thereās kind of a catch:
the comfort zone isnāt necessarily comfortable,
maybe just⦠familiar.
When something ends,
you understand your role.
But new beginnings?
Those are a blank page. A reset.
Terrifying, for sure.
Empowering? Also for sure.
Your nervous system is shouting because you're stepping out of predictability.
But growth lives exactly there. In the unpredictability that is.
So⦠how do you dance with that ambiguity?
GREAT QUESTION YOU.
Reframe your nervousness as excitement:
Literally say, "I'm excited," instead of "I'm scared."
Neuroscience backs this little trick (sweet);
it shifts your internal narrative.
Set micro-goals (write that **** down):
Break that overwhelming beginning into bite-sized steps.
Tiny tasks feel doable and calm your anxious brain.
Donāt trip. Youāll be okay.
When was the last time you avoided a beginning,
and what was actually holding you back?
What would you attempt if you knew you couldn't fail?
Who would you become if you embraced uncertainty rather than resisted it?
Youāre not stuck.
Youāre standing with a lot of potential/possibility.
Itās uncomfortable,
BUT thatās where life invites you forward.
To dance with it.
Now what?
